Tuesday, March 06, 2007A late inning Tennessee rally, erased a 2-0 Lipscomb lead, as the Bisons fell 4-3 to the Volunteers on Tuesday, March 6.
Right-hander Brandon McClurg gave the Bisons another impressive start, allowing just two runs on two hits in six innings.
The Bisons got on the board with two runs in the fifth. Ben Williams led off with a walk before promptly stealing second. Clay Lehning reached on an error to put runners on the corners with no outs. Casey Bond followed with a bunt single, to score Williams for the first run of the game. The Bisons would score their second run on a sacrifice fly by Allen Bolden.
Sophomore right-hander Charles Williams, relieved McClurg in the seventh with runners on first and second and the Bisons leading 2-0. However, both inherited runners scored, and the Volunteers broke through for a 3-2 lead.
The Volunteers added another run in the eighth to increase their lead to two.
The Bisons attempted to rally in the ninth, using an RBI double by Caleb Joseph to pull within one, but that was all they would get.
Williams received the loss to lower his record to 1-1.
The Bisons will travel to Natchez, Mississippi, to take on Alcorn State, March 9-11. The game on Friday, March 9, is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
