In a fourth and final game against Evansville, the Bisons could not hold an early 2-0 lead, as they fell 8-6 to the Purple Aces on Tuesday, March 27.
The Bisons dropped their season-opening series to Evansville two games to one. After dropping the first two games, right-hander Matt Schnelly allowed one run in five innings to earn the Bisons' first win of the season.
The Bisons wasted no time getting on the board on Tuesday. With one out in the first, Allen Bolden walked, before advancing to second on a single by Caleb Joseph. Ryan Wilkins followed with a double to left field, plating Bolden for the Bisons' first run of the game. Casey Bond added an RBI groundout, giving the Bisons' a 2-0 lead.
The Purple Aces scored a run in the bottom of the inning to pull within one, before tying the game with a run in the fourth, and taking the lead with another two in the fifth.
The Bisons tied the game with two runs in the sixth. Wilkins led off the inning with a single up the middle. A single by Bond put runners on first and second with no outs. Justin Sanders followed with a sacrifice bunt, advancing both runners into scoring position, for Shane Simpkins who singled up the middle, to knot the game at four.
However, Evansville added four runs in the bottom of the inning to take an 8-4 lead.
The Bisons added a run on an RBI single by Wilkins in the seventh, and another on an RBI double off the bat of Clay Lehning in the eighth, but it was not enough as the Bisons were defeated 8-6.
Wilkins led the Bisons on offense, going 3-5 with two RBIs, and a run scored.
Left-hander, Josh Spicer, recorded the loss to drop his record to 0-1.
The Bisons are back in action, when they return home to take on North Florida at Dugan Field on Friday, March 30. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
