In the first start of his collegiate career, right-hander, Matt Bowling, gave the Bisons just the performance they needed, as Lipscomb beat Tennessee-Martin 5-3, on Wednesday, April 4.
The Skyhawks struck first with two runs in the first.
The Bisons pulled to within one with a run in the fifth. Ben Williams led off with a double down the left field line, before advancing to third on a fly ball off the bat of Allen Bolden. Caleb Joseph followed with a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Williams for the Bisons first run of the game.
The Skyhawks added another run in the sixth to increase their lead to 3-1.
However, the Bisons bounced back, scoring four in the seventh, to take their first lead of the game. With one out, Williams reached on a bunt single to third base. Bolden followed with a single to left but advanced to second as the throw came into third, putting two runners in scoring position for Joseph who came through with an RBI single. Wilkins and Justin Sanders added an RBI in the inning. Another run scored on an error to complete the scoring, and give the Bisons a 5-3 lead.
Bowling lasted six innings giving up just three runs on six hits while striking out four.
Right-hander, Chris Burnett threw 2.2 scoreless innings to earn the win, his first of the season.
Williams led the Bisons on offense with three hits. Joseph added a hit and two RBIs to raise his average to .348.
The Bisons are on the road this weekend, when they travel to Macon, Georgia, to take on Mercer University in a conference series on April 6-7.
