NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After making the trek to the “Sunshine State” just last weekend to take on North Florida, the Lipscomb baseball team makes an encore appearance this weekend at Atlantic Sun Conference foe Stetson in DeLand, Fla.
Both teams are coming off 1-2 weekends in league play and a midweek loss as Stetson (23-13, 6-6 A-Sun) dropped a pair at Kennesaw State and then fell 3-2 at Miami on Wednesday night. The Bisons (17-20, 9-6 A-Sun) topped UNF on Friday night but lost the series to the Ospreys and then had a late-inning collapse in a 4-3 extra innings loss to Western Kentucky on Wednesday night.
Lipscomb will send senior righty Connor Sinclair (5-2, 3.00 ERA) to the hill on Friday night against Stetson’s ace, Kurt Sluter (4-2, 5.88), who is the reigning A-Sun Pitcher of the Year and a preseason TPX/Louisville Slugger All-American. Sluter will be making his first appearance on the hill in three weeks after having some arm troubles.
Saturday’s 1 p.m. scheduled contest will pit Lipscomb southpaw Blake Fonfara (2-4, 5.08 ERA) against Stetson’s Lindsey Caughel (4-2, 4.50 ERA). The series concludes on Sunday morning at 10 a.m. as Lipscomb righthander Josh Cotham (3-3, 2.88 ERA) gets the nod against Stetson’s Will Dorsey (4-3, 3.61 ERA).
The Hatters hold a 15-11 advantage in the series between the two schools.
