The Bisons could not overcome a strong offensive attack by the Kennesaw State Owls as they were defeated 10-3 on Friday, March 28.
Both starting pitchers began the game solid, posting zeroes in the first and second. The Owls finally got to Bisons' starter, Rex Brothers in the top of the third plating two runs to take the lead.
The Owls added to their lead in the fourth, scoring four runs before rain forced a one hour delay. When play resumed, Kyle Tognazzini entered the game in relief of Brothers. Tognazzini allowed one inherited runner to score, before recording the final two outs.
However, the Owls got the run back in the top of the sixth, plating a run against Tognazzini to increase their lead to 8-1.
The Owls added two more runs in the ninth to increase their lead to 10-1. The Bisons got two of the runs back in the bottom of the inning, plating a run on an RBI single by Branden Cadavid, and an RBI ground out by Gutierrez.
In 5.2 innings, Tognazzini gave up three runs on seven hits, while striking out seven.
Brothers received the loss, to drop his record to 2-3. In 3.1 innings of work, Brothers gave up seven runs, five earned, on seven hits, while striking out seven.
Justin Sanders led the Bisons on offense with three hits, while Simpkins and Cadavid added two. The Bisons recorded just eight total hits.
The Bisons are back in action when they taken on the Owls in a double-header, tomorrow, March 29. Game one is scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. Right-hander Brandon McClurg is scheduled to make the game one start for the Bisons. On the season, McClurg is 3-0 with a 2.16 ERA. In 25 innings, he has given up seven runs, six earned, on 22 hits, while striking out 24.
Right-hander Chad Jenkins will take the mound for the Owls in game one. On the season, Jenkins is 1-2 with a 4.71 ERA. In 28.2 innings, he has given up 16 runs, 15 earned, on 33 hits, while striking out 25.
Left-hander Mike Dunn will receive the start in the series finale for the Bisons. So far this season, Dunn is 1-1 with a 5.35 ERA. In 33.2 innings, he has given up 22 runs, 20 earned, while striking out 25.
Opposing Dunn in game two of the double-header, will be left-hander, Justin Freeman. On the season, Freeman is 2-2 with a 3.07 ERA. He has struck out 34 and opponents are batting .211 against him.
