NASHVILLE, Tenn. – With fall practice in full swing, Lipscomb baseball head coach Jeff Forehand announces the 2013 schedule including 31 games in the friendly confines of Ken Dugan Field at Stephen L. Marsh Stadium.
The Bisons hit the road for 25 road contests including away games at Southeastern Conference powers Ole Miss and Vanderbilt.
“Every year I feel like we have a really tough schedule,” said Forehand. “ Last year we were in the top-65 toughest schedules with how difficult it was. We try to put our schedule together that way to be prepared for the tough Atlantic Sun but even farther than that. If you’re planning to get to that next step after your conference tournament and get into a regional, the schedule is what I think prepares you to do that.”
Lipscomb opens with 12 of the first 13 games on campus at Dugan Field hosting Southern Illinois-Edwardsville for a three-game set to lift the lid on the campaign. A midweek trip to Tennessee Tech is sandwiched in between the games against the Cougars and the 2013 “Mule Mix Classic” that features a pair of games against both Bradley and Ball State.
After a midweek tilt at Middle Tennessee, the Bisons make the trek to Oxford, Miss. a trio of games against the Rebels. LU continues road action at UT Martin before returning home to face Austin Peay and another three games against Bradley.
Following a trip north across the state line to take on Western Kentucky, the Bisons open Atlantic Sun Conference play as North Florida comes to the “Music City”. A trip across town to take on Vanderbilt follows before the first conference road trip of the season on Easter weekend to face Florida Gulf Coast in Fort Myers, Fla.
“We’ve got Vandy back on the schedule which is good,” said Forehand. “That’s a good game to play for us because year in and year out they’ve been so successful. And playing our cross-town rival two times in the middle of the week is going to be great. Hopefully those will be a couple of great crowds.”
The Bisons continue the seven-game road swing to start the month of April with a return trip to take on Austin Peay before heading across state to take on ETSU in A-Sun action. The Purple and Gold returns home after the series with the Bucs for non-conference action against Belmont before USC Upstate comes in for the weekend league series. Western Kentucky then makes their return to wrap up the five-game homestand.
April action continues for the Bisons with a three-game set at Mercer and a return trip to Belmont before closing out the month with a home series against Stetson.
Lipscomb opens the month of May with another trip to the “Bluegrass State” to take on A-Sun newcomer Northern Kentucky in Highland Heights before UT-Martin comes to Nashville for a midweek tussle. LU then heads to take on Jacksonville in the final road trip of the season before rounding out the 2013 regular season by hosting Tennessee Tech and Kennesaw State in the final week of action.
The Bisons are set for a big week next week as “Family Weekend” approaches on Oct. 12-13. After the team scrimmages on Tuesday and Wednesday, the squad hosts the seventh-annual golf tournament fundraiser at the Legends Golf Club in Franklin. The team scrimmages again on Saturday.
