MACON, Ga. – After helping the Lipscomb baseball team to a 3-game sweep of league foe ETSU and a share of first place in the conference standings, Hunter Brothers and Josh Lee have been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league on Monday.
Brothers was nearly unhittable on Saturday afternoon as he limited the Buccaneers to only two hits in a complete-game shutout. The Chapel Hill, Tenn. native faced just two above the minimum and struck out seven without allowing a walk. He also kept the Bucs from getting a runner into scoring position all afternoon.
Lee went 9-for-14 on the week with all nine hits coming in the series against ETSU and had a hand in 8 of the 20 runs scored by the Bisons. The Franklin, Tenn. native opened the series with a 5-for-5 night against the Bucs driving in a pair of runs and scoring another. Lee then followed up the Friday night performance with a pair of 2-for-4 outings to conclude the weekend.
The awards are the first for both players and the first time in school history that the Bisons have claimed A-Sun Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week in the same week.
The Bisons hit the road to UT-Martin on Tuesday night for a midweek nonconference tilt before returning home this weekend for a showdown between A-Sun co-leaders as Mercer heads to the Music City for a 3-game set.
