Bisons slow start continues against Winston-Salem State

Final Stats

The Lipscomb Bisons expect the early season to be a struggle with freshmen and other new faces being placed into the thick of the mix.

Saturday night in the second round of the Cyclone Challenge hosted by Iowa State in Ames, Iowa the Bisons fell 68-58 to Winston-Salem State University.

Senior forward Eddie Ard was named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Bisons started off strong hitting 12-of-23 from the field (52.2 percent). They also hit 6-of-12 shots from 3-point range. At intermission they led 35-29.

But in the second half the Bisons were 7-of-27 from the field, 25.9 percent. They missed all nine attempts from 3-point range.

Sophomore guard Devon Seaford and senior forward Eddie Ard each scored 12 points to lead the Bisons. Seaford was 3-of-6 from 3-point range.

Senior center Jason Hopkins grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Bisons controlled the boards holding a 38-31 edge.

The Bisons hit 19-of-50 shots from the field, for 38 percent for the game.

Winston-Salem State made the difference from 3-point range hitting 14-of-26 for 53.8 percent. They were 7-of-11 from 3-point range in the second half, a 63.6 percent success rate.

From the field Winston-Salem State was 11-of-32 in the first half and 11-of-21, 52.4 percent, in the second half.

Four players finished in double figures for Winston-Salem State. Roy Peake led with 16 points. Brian Fisher chipped in 14. Michael Puckett and Isiah Tucker scored 10 points apiece.

Turnovers were once again a problem for the Bisons with 20. Winston-Salem made 13.

The Bisons are 0-2. Winston-Salem is 1-1.
