MACON, Ga. – Lipscomb’s Adnan Hodzic helped the Bisons to a 2-0 week against Mercer and Kennesaw State and the No. 1 seed in the General Shale Brick A-Sun Basketball Championships, earning the junior center Atlantic Sun Player of the Week honors, the conference announced Monday.
A week after teammate Josh Slater made his statement for player of the year honors while earning the league’s weekly award, Lipscomb’s Adnan Hodzic argued his compelling case as the Atlantic Sun’s top player scoring 61 points and bringing down 37 boards in two wins clinching the Bisons a share of the regular season crown and the No. 1 seed in this week’s tournament.
Thursday, the Sarajevo, Bosnia native scored 24 points and had a school NCAA era record 20 rebounds in Lipscomb’s 74-66 win against Kennesaw State. It marked the first 20-20 game in the Atlantic Sun since Jacksonville’s Haminn Quaintance had 26 points and 21 rebounds against Troy on Jan. 1, 2005. Hodzic’s 20 boards also tally as the most for an A-Sun player since Mercer’s Daniel Emerson also brought down 20 on Jan. 3 last season. The management major continued to set off fireworks Saturday in Lipscomb’s 85-73 win against Mercer in the Atlantic Sun Game of the Week televised on CSS.
Hodzic scored a career high 37 points, the most for a Bison since Jeff Dancy scored 38 against TSU on Jan. 14, 2002. The junior center also had 17 rebounds, which would have tied the Lipscomb NCAA era record save his performance two days earlier. For the week, Hodzic averaged 30.5 points and 18.5 rebounds while shooting 65 percent (26-of-40) from the floor and 64.3 percent (9-of-14) from the line.
Hodzic enters the Atlantic Sun tournament riding a streak of scoring 20 or more points in 11 consecutive games. During the streak, he averages 24.9 points and 10.7 rebounds while shooting 61.8 percent. On the year, Hodzic has averaged 22.5 points to lead the A-Sun and ranks No. 6 in the nation. His scoring average stands as the highest in the Atlantic Sun since Mercer’s Reggie Elliott averaged 22.6 points in the 1995-96 season.
