WACO, TEXAS - The Lipscomb Bisons were outmatched by the No. 12/13 Baylor Bears Monday night falling 72-60 at the Ferrell Center in Waco, Texas.
Baylor sharpshooter LaceDarius Dunn, returning from a three-game suspension for a domestic dispute with his girlfriend, hit four consecutive threes in a two-minute stretch to open the second half and extend the Bear’s lead to 17. Dunn finished with seven 3-pointers and a game-high 24 points.
“He’s as good as advertised,” Lipscomb coach Scott Sanderson said. “He’s a veteran guard and their team feeds of him. He delivered the knockout punch in the second half.”
Baylor led 35-28 at halftime. The Bears took their largest lead of the game, 59-39, with 9:17 left in the game.
The Bisons struggled throughout the contest with Baylor’s length. The Bears scored over half their points in paint and outrebounded the Bisons 45-33.
Junior forward Jordan Burgason paced the Bisons with 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Senior forward Adnan Hodzic scored 13 and senior guard Josh Slater added 11.
Hodzic’s streak of scoring in double-figures looked in danger in the second half. He made a layup with 4:31 left to extend his streak to 61 games. He grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
Lipscomb scored six unanswered points in the final 2:10 to cut Baylor’s lead by a third.
Lipscomb shot 36.8 percent from the floor and 35.0 percent from beyond the arc. The Bisons shot 11-of-18 from the line for 61.1 percent.
Baylor hit 45.9 percent of its shots and 40.9 percent from downtown. Baylor scored 15 second chance points off 12 offensive rebounds.
Quincy Acy had 18 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
The Bisons play at UT-Martin Saturday at 4 p.m. Jonathan Seamon and Benjamin Seamon will be on the call for the Lipscomb Sports Network.
