BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – On the heels of averaging 11.2 points-per-game as a sophomore, Lipscomb forward Martin Smith has been named to the Lindy’s Sports Preseason All-Atlantic Sun Conference Second Team.
The Clarksville, Tenn. native played in all 30 games last season averaging 32.4 minutes-per-game, a figure that ranked seventh highest in the A-Sun.
“It’s worth noting anytime a player is recognized as one of the best, so we celebrate that with Martin,” said Lipscomb head coach Casey Alexander. “With our lack of overall team size, we’ll need Martin to provide a significant scoring punch this year. He’s already regarded as one of our best defenders.”
Defending A-Sun Tournament champion Florida Gulf Coast was picked to finish atop the league standings ahead of Mercer and USC Upstate. The Bisons were tabbed for a seventh-place finish behind Jacksonville, ETSU and North Florida, respectively.
Lipscomb tips off the 2013-14 season on Halloween night hosting Freed Hardeman in an exhibition tilt at Allen Arena at 6 p.m. The regular season gets underway just over a week later with the “Battle of the Boulevard” on Nov. 8 that is also set for a 6 p.m. start.
