The Lipscomb Bisons basketball team has added a new player during the holiday break.
Point guard Nicholas Hodge, a former standout at Hume-Fogg High School in Nashville, has joined the team as a walk-on. He will be wearing No. 4 and will be with the Bisons Friday night in Tuscaloosa when they face Alabama, the No. 8-ranked team in the country.
"Nick is a very tough, hard-nosed player," Lipscomb coach Scott Sanderson said. "He is very athletic. He is a good shooter. He will be a good defender."
Sanderson also likes the way that Hodge, 6-foot-1, 180 pounds, is already communicating with his new teammates on the court despite only practicing for a few days.
"I like the way he talked and communicates," Sanderson said. "He still has to learn what we are doing. Once he learns what we are doing he could help us."
Hodge played at Xavier in New Orleans, La., as a scholarship player, but was displaced as the result of damage from Hurricane Katrina. He is listed as a junior in terms of eligibility even though he has graduated from Xavier with a degree in pre-medical biology.
He is working on his Masters in Education at Lipscomb.
