Tuesday, January 01, 2013 JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Wrapping up a five-game road swing, the Lipscomb men’s basketball team opens the New Year with a 6:15 p.m. tilt at Atlantic Sun Conference foe Jacksonville at the Jacksonville Veterans Municipal Auditorium. The Bisons (5-7, 0-1 A-Sun) are coming off an 84-70 loss at North Florida on Monday afternoon that saw a veteran Osprey club pull away in the final seven minutes of action. Jacksonville (6-8, 1-0 A-Sun) on the other hand managed to down league newcomer Northern Kentucky 53-51 on a pair of free throws with 1.8 seconds remaining. LU sophomore forward Malcolm Smith posted an 18-point, 13-rebound effort against UNF upping his scoring average to 12 points per game just behind twin brother Martin, who lead the Bisons with 12.7 points per outing. Redshirt freshman Stephen Hurt is adding 10.8 points per night along with senior Deonte Alexander, who rounds out the Bisons in double figures with a 10.1 average each game. The Jacksonville offense that averages 65.9 points a game is led by freshman guard Jarvis Haywood, who averages 10.8 points per game as the only Dolphin in double figures.
