Thursday, January 27, 2011The Atlantic Sun Conference has added two new levels of recognition for student-athletes who have excelled on the field or court and in the classroom.
Four Lipscomb student-athletes earned the Presidentâ€™s Scholar Award, the most from any one school in the conference. Fifteen students were honored overall.
Three Lipscomb student-athletes were presented with the Commissionerâ€™s Scholar Award. Eleven A-Sun student-athletes earned the designation.
Earning the Presidentâ€™s Scholar designation were Lacey Cross (womenâ€™s soccer), Jeffrey Hoover (menâ€™s cross country), Alex Kelly (volleyball) and Jenny Randolph (womenâ€™s cross country). Cross and Hoover both posted 3.94 GPAs. Kelly and Randolph each have 3.89 GPAs.
To earn this designation student-athletes must have completed their final year of eligibility, maintained a cumulative 3.8 or above grade point average and completed a minimum of 48 credit hours.
Kathryn Spellman (womenâ€™s soccer), Stefine â€œJakeâ€ Pease (volleyball) and Caitlin Anderson (womenâ€™s cross country) earned the Commissionerâ€™s Scholar Award.
Spellmanâ€™s GPA is 3.77. Pease has a 3.69 and Anderson a 3.62.
Commissionerâ€™s Scholars must have completed their final year of eligibility, earned a cumulative GPA between 3.66 and 3.799 and completed a minimum of 48 credit hours.
Fall A-Sun All-Academic Teams have also been named. A student-athlete must have a 3.0 or higher GPA during the semester of competition. Lipscomb womenâ€™s soccer had the top grade percentage in that sport.
