MURRAY, Ky. – Bolstered by a second-place finish from junior Blanton Farmer, the Lipscomb men’s golf team finished second in the “2011 Murray State Invitational” this week posting an 857 that was five shots behind host Murray State at the Miller Memorial Golf Course in Murray, Ky.
Pacing the field with 16 birdies, Farmer was stellar for the Bisons in all three rounds. The Lexington, Ky., native playing in his home state opened the event with a 72 before posting his best collegiate round with a blistering 65 to finish play on Monday. The junior then finished the tournament in solid fashion with a 70 on Tuesday to finish two strokes behind Murray State’s Patrick Newcomb, who led the field with a 205 in the 54-hole event.
Freshman Nate Johnson also finished in the top-10 with an eighth-place performance. The fellow “Bluegrass State” native posted a 207 (72-73-70) on the week. Sophomore Ryan Terry finished tied for 18th in the event with a 219 (70-76-74) just ahead of teammates Alex Cox (70-76-74=220) and Paul Klein-Kracht (73-72-75=220), who both tied for 20th.
The Bisons continue fall action next week in the “UT Martin Skyhawk Fall Classic”.
