Bisons host Paladins in A-Sun Game of the Week

MACON, Ga. - One week after hosting its first Division I tournament, Lipscomb’s men’s soccer team hosts its second tournament, the A-Sun/SoCon Shootout. The Bisons open the four-team event with the preseason favorite from the Southern Conference, Furman at 7:30pm CT on Friday in the A-Sun Game of the Week. The match can be seen on ASun.TV.

Lipscomb enters with a 3-4 mark riding a pair of wins in the Hyatt Place Select-Brentwood Invitational. Miguel DaSilva picked up the A-Sun Player of the Week award for his performance in the event. He scored twice during the tournament and assisted on the game-winning goal against UNC Asheville on Sunday. He leads the A-Sun in goals with six and total points, 13. The sophomore ranks among the top 20 in Division I in goals per game (15th, 0.86) and points per game (17th, 1.86). After allowing 13 goals in their last four games, all losses, Lipscomb limited Presbyterian and UNC Asheville to only one goal, combined, last weekend. Brent McGee allowed one goal in 135 minutes of action in net.

The Paladins enter the tournament with a three-game unbeaten streak. The streak started on Friday at the Wofford/Nike Soccer Classic with a 2-2 tie against Georgia State followed by a 5-0 win against USC Upstate. Furman’s most recent contest resulted in a 2-1 win against No. 19 South Carolina on Wednesday. Freshman Warren Creavalle scored the game-winning goal the 74th minute. The Paladins finished 2007 with a record of 19-4 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Among those four losses, a 2-1 overtime defeat to Belmont on November 2nd. Two days later, the Paladins and Bisons met in the regular-season finale and the Paladins took the match by a 3-1 score.
