NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A late goal from sophomore Nick Bibb gave Lipscomb a chance to salvage their Friday night match-up with Atlantic Sun opponent Jacksonville, but the Dolphins held off a furious Bisons charge to take the victory, 2-1.
The Bisons (3-9-2, 2-2-0 in the A-Sun) started out slow against the conference leaders. Jacksonville (7-5-1, 4-0-0 A-Sun) held Lipscomb to three first half shots, none of which challenged keeper Gavin Carlin.
Jacksonville was little better for most of the first half, until the 42nd minute. Daniele Campailla sent a low cross to Florian Scheck, who deposited it into the lower right corner of the net for his season’s first goal.
The Dolphins would score again in the 64th minute, with Stefan Durr netting his season’s first goal. Darko Karamatic, the A-Sun Player of the Week, assisted on the goal.
At this point, the Bisons offense kicked into high gear. In the 78th minute, Bibb got the Bisons on the board with his team-high fifth goal. Freshman Omar Djabi lofted a cross into the box, which fellow frosh Zander El-Hindi headed back to Bibb. The Hoover, Ala. native deposited the shot into the lower right to give Lipscomb a glimmer of hope.
The Bisons tried time and again in the game’s final minutes to challenge the Jacksonville defense. Lipscomb’s final chance to equalize the game came via senior Andrew Chamberlain’s 85th-minute header, which Carlin got his mitts on for his only save of the contest.
"We faced a team tonight that was hungry for a result," said Lipscomb head coach Charles Morrow. "They brought the effort and intensity. We didn't bring the effort and the focus we needed to combat what they were doing."
Lipscomb keeper Brent McGee made three saves in the loss.
The Bisons will be home again Sunday for a 2 p.m. tilt with Jacksonville’s in-town neighbor, North Florida. The Ospreys, which lost 2-0 to Belmont Friday night, bring a 1-11-0 record into the contest.
