MACON, Ga. - The conference portion of the men’s soccer season concludes on Sunday with a quartet of games highlighted by a rematch from the semifinals of the 2007 Atlantic Sun Championship between Jacksonville and Lipscomb. The two meet in the Game of the Week at 12:00 p.m. CT at the Ashley Sports Complex. The match airs on ASun.TV.
Jacksonville enters the weekend in control of its destiny to lock up the second seed in next month’s A-Sun Championship. The Dolphins carry a three-match winning streak into the weekend. They have also not allowed a goal in their last five halves spanning a stretch of 239:06 minutes of action.
Between the posts, senior Joey Sanchez continues to be a solid presence having recorded five shutouts while sporting a 0.82 goals against average, a mark that currently ranks as lowest in a single season for Jacksonville. On offense, forward Ramak Niakan Safi leads the team with five goals while junior defender Stefan Runeman and sophomore forward Tony Taylor have each tallied four goals.
Lipscomb counters with a potent offense that leads the conference in shots and goals for both the entire 2008 season as well as during conference play. Miguel DaSilva, Garrett Pettis and Angel Chairez rank among the top 10 in shots with DaSilva leading the A-Sun with 55. DaSilva and Pettis own the top two spots in the league in points. DaSilva paces the conference with 25 points (eight goals, nine assists) while Pettis (21 points) leads the conference in goals with 10.
