The Lipscomb men’s soccer team, after one of its best seasons under the leadership of Charles Morrow, has added one of its strongest recruiting classes.
The Bisons finished the year with nine wins, the most since 2010. Morrow guided his team to the semi-finals of the Atlantic Sun Championship for the fourth time in the last five years.
The Bisons received the No. 3 seed in the championship, tying for the highest seed in school history. Lipscomb swept the 2013 A-Sun Coach and Player of the Year awards. Morrow took home the distinction of the league’s best coach for the first time in his career, while Omar Djabi was named Player of the Year after leading the league with nine goals on the season. The Bisons look to further their recent success by signing a group that Morrow believes can take his program to the next level.
“We feel that our 2014 class is one of the stronger classes we have ever brought in,” Morrow said. “I am proud of the recruiting efforts from our coaching staff to secure the 2014 class.
“Not having lost a starting player from our A-Sun semi-final team last year, we feel the 2014 class has the potential to help our program achieve new heights. We expect several players from the 2014 class to compete for significant time and feel the class as a whole will add a quality of depth that will help our competitiveness as a team.”
Ivan Alvarado | 5-11 | 150 | Midfielder/Forward | Ft. Worth, Texas | Southwest High School | Dallas Texans USSDA
“Ivan is one of the more dynamic attacking players in the country in the 2014 class. He has the ability to create scoring opportunities for himself and for others. Ivan fills an attacking need for us and we anticipate him being able to add another dimension to our attack. ”
Anthony Bellini | 5-10 | 160 | Midfielder | Tampa, Fla. | Jesuit High School | Tampa Bay United Soccer Club
“Anthony is a solid possession player that we identified at one of our ID camps. He is very technical player. We look for Anthony to add depth to our center midfield.”
Nate Davis | 6-0 | 175 | Goalkeeper | St. Louis, Mo.| Lafayette High School | Scott Gallagher USSDA
“Nate is an excellent goalkeeper who is a proven product from the highly competitive Scott Gallagher USSDA system. He is an excellent shot stopper who is also good with his feet. We feel that Nate has the ability to push for time right away and will make our goalkeeping corps very competitive.”
Joe Kerridge | 6-0 | 155 | Midfielder | Golden, Colo. | Golden High School | Colorado Rush USSDA
“Joe is a versatile player who can play a number of different positions, midfield being his most predominate position. He is a technical player who brings a tremendous work rate. We anticipate Joe’s skillset to lend itself to the college game and for Joe to make us more competitive as a group right away.”
Logan Paynter | 5-10 | 150 | Midfielder / Forward | Bradenton, Fla. | Manatee High School | Clearwater Chargers Soccer Club USSDA
“We were fortunate enough to get to really know Logan through our summer ID camp. He is a quick, technical, attacking-minded player who we feel has the ability to help boost our attack.”
Jonathan Ramirez | 5-9 | 140 | Midfielder | Waco, Texas Midway High School | Dallas Texans USSDA
“Jonathan is a quick, technical midfielder who is most comfortable out wide, but can also slide inside. We feel Jonathan will flourish in our system where interchange is encouraged. He is a proven player who has been with the highly competitive Dallas Texans USSDA system.”
Kyle Smith | 5-8 | 140 | Midfielder | Independence, Ohio | Independence High School | Everest Soccer Club
Kyle is a scrappy Midwestern attacking player. He brings a blue-collar work ethic to the game with technical ability as well. We anticipate Kyle to provide us depth in our attacking positions.”
Chris Zappia | 6-2| 185 | Goalkeeper | Raleigh, N.C. | Leesville Road High School | North Carolina Alliance Soccer Club
“Chris directs well out of the back and controls his box well. He will bring knowledge of what it takes to be successful coming from a highly successful club environment. We feel that Chris has the ability to push for time right away and will make our goalkeeping corps very competitive. “
