Monday, February 14, 2011The Lipscomb Bisons won their second straight match on Saturday after defeating Western Kentucky 6-1. The win advanced the Bisons’ record to 3-3 with only one match remaining before conference play begins.
"The Bisons had a great weekend to build their confidence,” men’s assistant coach Mike Sherman said. “The coaching staff is proud of the way they fought and hope this momentum carries into their conference matches."
The Bisons swept Western Kentucky in doubles to take a 1-0 lead before heading into singles play.
Senior Joe McArdle and freshman Oliver Strecker defeated Arul Selvan and Bobby Whitmen 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, while sophomore Colby Shaw and junior Chad Pierron recorded a win at No. 2, beating Craig Kirchgessner and Caleb Ball 8-3.
At No. 3, sophomore Tanner Brown and freshman David Salazar defeated Currie Martin and Lance Freeman 8-5.
The Bisons only loss of the match came at the No. 2 spot. Pierron fell in a hard fought three set match, losing to Selvan 3-6, 6-1, 10-7.
Strecker posted a win at No. 1, defeating Kirchgessner 7-6(3), 6-1. At No. 3, Salazar easily defeated Martin 6-1, 6-1.
At No. 4, Brown secured a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Freeman, and Shaw defeated Whitmen 7-5, 6-0 at No. 5.
Freshman Miguel Cortez recorded a win at No. 6, beating Ball 6-4, 6-2.
The Bisons will be back in action Friday, February 25th when they host Xavier University at Richland Country Club. Matches will begin at 7 p.m.
