MACON, Ga. – Lipscomb picked up its first win of the season on Friday night and in the process claimed the program's first Atlantic Sun Men's Tennis Player of the Week honor as Stuart Tierney received the accolades.
Tierney is a sophomore accounting major from Hillsboro, Ore.
“I think Stuart has done a great job this spring of staying focused in practices and matches,” Lipscomb coach Andrew Harris said. “We have worked hard with him on making good decisions in matches and staying within his game identity.”
Tierney won at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-2, against Abilene Christian Friday night. He also added a win at No. 2 doubles with Miguel Cortez with a score of 8-6 as the Bisons edged Abilene Christian, the No. 11-ranked team in NCAA Division II, 4-3.
“In doubles, he and Miguel both have continued to improve week-to-week and seem to remain constant in their approach,” Harris said. “We have a long way to go this spring, but there are going to be many more opportunities for Stuart to continue to do well in the lineup.”
