Thursday, June 04, 2009Lipscomb University junior Ryan Chastain has been named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA All-Academic Second Team in District IV.
Chastain, majoring in Mechanical Engineering, has a 3.68 grade point average. He is from Mitchell, Ind.
The teams are selected by college sports information directors from across the country. District IV includes the states of Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Ohio and Michigan.
He earned All-Atlantic Sun Conference honors, the first Bisons runner to accomplish the feat, with a time of 24:56.48 in the 8-kilometer course at the conference championships. In track he was ranked second in the conference in the 3000 meters this season. He is rankled in the top 10 this season in the conference in the 800 meters, the 1,500 meters, the 3,000 meters and the 5,000 meters.
Chastain has been a team captain for both track and cross country the past two years.
He has been an Atlantic Sun All-Academic Team member for the past two seasons.
Chastain was honored by the cross country team with the “Heart of Gold” and “Total Commitment” awards.
