MACON, Ga. - Lipscomb’s Ryan Chastain picked up a pair of wins en route to earning A-Sun Track Athlete of the Week honors while USC Upstate’s Eric Chapman put on a record-setting performance to earn field athlete honors.
A week after taking 25 seconds off the Lipscomb indoor track 5000-meter record at the UW Invite (14:53), Chastain continued his impressive season by winning the mile in 4:19.11 and the 800-meter run in 1:55.49 at the Tennessee State University Invite. Both performances also established his personal bests. His 800 time breaks the Lipscomb indoor record and ranks him first in the Atlantic Sun Conference. Chastain also ranks sixth in the mile and third in the 5000-meter run in the conference this season.
At the Vince Brown Invitational, Chapman set a school-record in the weight throw and posted a personal mark in the shot put. In the weight throw, Chapman recorded the school-record toss of 48-01.75 (14.67m) as he finished seventh in the event. In the shot put, the junior recorded a distance of 40-08.25 (12.40m) for a 12th-place finish. Chapman’s toss in the weight throw ranks as the fourth-farthest this season and the longest since the calendar flipped to 2010.
