BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Two school records fell at the Billy Hayes Invite in Bloomington, Ind., as the Lipscomb track and field team completed its last meet before the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament next week.
Katie Bunker set a new school record in the women’s 1,500-meter invitational run with a time of 4:24.57. Bunker finished second, almost two and a half seconds in front of third place.
“Katie ran amazing,” Bill Taylor, director of cross country and track and field, said. “She was the big improver this meet. I've been waiting for her to solve the third lap. It's been the one weakness in her race. She solved it today and destroyed her PR and the school record. ”
Tucker Peabody also set a new school record in the 100-meter dash. Peabody ran a 10.49 to finish third, 0.01 ahead of fourth place, and had the second fastest time in the A-Sun this season.
LU did very well in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase placing three runners in the first four spots.
Tessa Hoefle won the event with a time of 10:39.97, while teammate Madelin Talbert finished in second place with a time of 10:45.16. Kendra Lobley finished fourth with a time of 11:10.12.
Talbert finished 0.60 ahead of third place. Lobley finished almost 17 seconds ahead of fifth place.
"Tessa and Madi looked strong in the steeple,” Taylor said. “Tessa took control early and never looked back.”
The track and field team had multiple members who picked up silver during the meet.
Taylor Mason finished second in the women’s javelin throw with a throw of 35.58 meters, 3.34 meters ahead of third place.
Kayla Droessler placed second in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:51.42, about five seconds ahead of third place.
