NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb track and field squads will be back in competition at the Tennessee Challenge on Tennessee’s campus after taking a week off for finals.
"We've had two weeks off, so we are pretty excited to get back to competition this weekend,” said Bill Taylor, director of track and field. “Finals are over, which is nice.”
With finals out of the way, the team will concentrate on improving their performances after experiencing several hardships their past two weekends of competitions.
While a good portion of the team will be at the Tennessee Challenge, several familiar faces will be absent from the competition.
“Most of our seniors won't be competing this weekend because of graduation, but the bulk of our team will compete,” Taylor said. “It is a good prep for the post season."
Madi Talbert will be returning to Knoxville where she took third place in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the Tennessee Relays just three weeks ago.
Talbert also posted a new personal record in the 800 meters at the Kentucky Relays, in her last meet before the break.
Freshman Juan Gonzalez is looking to continue his streak of accomplishments after finishing first in the 5000 meters at the Kentucky Relays.
Gonzalez also broke the school record in the 5000 meters finishing in 14:30.22 at the San Francisco Distance Carnival the week before.
April Terry will be competing Saturday looking to better her skills in the hammer throw. Before the break for finals, Terry placed first in the hammer throw at the Boston-Moon Classic throwing for a length of 48.59 meters.
Gemikal Prude will test his efforts in the high jump with hopes of improving his best mark at 2.21 meters set at the Boston-Moon Classic.
Taylor is anxious to see where the team stands after the break.
Saturday will be the first competition of the outdoor season where the team will not be split between meets.
