NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb men’s soccer team travels to Atlantic Sun Conference newcomer Northern Kentucky on Saturday for the regular season finale and with the A-Sun Championships on the line.

Controlling their own destiny, the Bisons are in the tournament with a win or a tie after Stetson lost 2-0 to Florida Gulf Coast on Wednesday night.

Coming off a 1-1 weekend, a double- overtime victory over Jacksonville and a double-overtime loss to North Florida, Lipscomb is 5-11-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the A-Sun.

In a scoreless tie at Jacksonville, the Bisons scored off an attack on the kick-off to start the second extra time. Josue Chavez charged the ball down the left side of the field crossing into Reece Holcombe who attempted a shot but was blocked. Directly off the block, Troy Barr struck the game-winner into the net for his first career goal and the victory. Goalkeeper Miguel Hof stopped nine shots for his second career shutout.

In its fourth-straight overtime match, Lipscomb fell 3-2 to North Florida. Holcombe connected on two goals for the first multi-goal game of his career. The Ospreys struck the game-winning goal in the 108th minute of play.

Northern Kentucky enters 7-9-1 in its first season of Division I play and 4-2-1 in the A-Sun. The Norse sit in fourth place in the A-Sun, but due to the division switch, are not eligible for the post season.

On Wednesday night the Norse beat USC Upstate 1-0 with a 17th minute goal from Craig Heard to send the Norse to victory.

Heard along with Nick Toney lead the Norse with three goals on the season while Toney has eight points after tacking on two assists. Five other Norse have two goals apiece, Kevin Walker has three assists to go along with his two goals.

A.J. Fleak has started 13 of the 17 games in the net, accumulating 40 saves on 52 shots on goal. Fleak’s .99 goals against average ranks him second in the A-Sun while his .769 save percentage ranks him third in conference.
