Dickey delivers message of faith and perseverance

Thursday, December 06, 2012

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – With a crowd approaching 500 people at Lipscomb University’s Allen Arena, National League Cy Young winner R.A. Dickey captivated the “Golden Bison/Forehand and Friends” luncheon gathering with a number of stories including his unprecedented run as a knuckleball pitcher to being named top pitcher in the league.

The Nashville native recounted his special year that saw him climb Mt. Kilimanjaro where he had to push through hallucinations to reach the summit, publish his memoir “Wherever I Wind Up: My Quest for Truth, Authenticity and the Perfect Knuckleball,” and earn National League All-Star team honors.

Dickey also spent time talking about his faith in God during his journey including his offseason contract negotiations with the New York Mets and the recent trade rumors that have been fanned up during the Major League Baseball Winter Meetings held in the “Music City” this week.

The day after winning the Cy Young Award last month, Dickey was honored by Lipscomb’s College of Business with their Heroes of Business Award that recognizes business leaders who have demonstrated ethical business practices while succeeding in business and working from a foundation of Christian faith.

The event concluded with Dickey taking time to sign memorabilia for those in attendance.
