KENNESAW, Ga. – With a chance to take a major step towards the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament, the Lipscomb women’s basketball team battles Kennesaw State on Saturday at the Convocation Center in Kennesaw, Ga. Tipoff is slated for 11 a.m.
The Lady Bisons (2-23, 1-13 A-Sun) are chasing the Owls (7-19, 3-11 A-Sun) for the eighth and final spot in the A-Sun Championships and currently are two games out of that final slot with four games remaining.
“We’ve got to continue to build in these last four games and try to give ourselves a chance to get in the tournament,” Lipscomb head coach Greg Brown said.
Lipscomb fell 55-39 on Jan. 28 to the Owls as a ten-minute scoreless stretch doomed the Lady Bisons. Hannah Phillips scored 17 points while Alex Banks added 13 points and nine rebounds. However, KSU placed four in double-figures including Chelsea Mason with 17 points.
The Lady Bisons are coming off a 68-54 loss to Stetson on Monday. Banks scored a game-high 19 points for LU while Phillips chipped in 14. In just 13 minutes of action O’Neisha Smith secured eight rebounds and scored seven points.
As she has for the entire season, Phillips leads the Lady Bisons with a 13.1 point-per-game average and secures 5.6 boards in 32.9 minutes per game.
The Owls are led by Sametria Gideon who averages a double-double with 11.1 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. Kristina Wells and Ashley Holliday also average double-digits with 11 points and 10 points per game, respectively.
