The Lipscomb men’s soccer team looks to continue its three-game winning streak when Northern Kentucky visits the Lipscomb Soccer Complex Saturday at 7 p.m.
The Bisons swept Jacksonville (4-1) and North Kentucky (1-0) last weekend to extend its longest win streak since 2010, when Lipscomb won four-straight.
Offensively, the Bisons have been clicking, outshooting their opponents 73-32 in A-Sun play. But the defense is a major reason Lipscomb has found recent success.
In the last five games, the Bisons defense has recorded three shutouts.
Micah Bledsoe has been steady in the net for Lipscomb. He is second in the conference with 46 saves and third with a goals against average of 1.06.
Bledsoe earned A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week for his performance last weekend. In the two wins he grabbed 10 saves and only allowed one goal. Bledsoe also recorded his third shutout of the year.
Omar Djabi scored three goals in the past two wins to push his total to eight. He leads the A-Sun. Djabi earned Co-Player of the Week in the A-Sun this past week. It was his second honor of the year.
He also leads the conference with four game-winning goals and 18 total points.
Luke Gearin is second on the Bisons with three goals. Reece Holcombe is just behind with two.
Matt Kerridge leads the team with three assists, two of which he scored in the 4-1 win over Jacksonville. Kerridge is tied for second in the A-Sun in total assists.
Lipscomb is second in the A-Sun with 17 goals and 1.31 goals per game average.
The Purple and Gold are 7-0 when they score first. NKU has allowed 10 goals in the first half this season while only scoring four.
The game will be shown on A-Sun TV. Follow the link under the picture.
NKU (4-3-5, 1-1-1) tied 1-1 in double overtime with North Florida last Friday.
The Norse is led in scoring by Caleb Eastham with four goals. He also leads the team with eight total points. Setho Moshoeshoe and Mohammad Salhieh are tied for second on the team with two goals each.
NKU lost 1-0 in the only meeting with Lipscomb in 2012. The Bisons’ Tyler Burkhardt scored in the opening minute of overtime in NKU’s final game last season.
The loss is NKU’s only home loss in its Division I era as the Norse are 3-1-3 at home over two years.
After the matchup with NKU, Lipscomb will hit the road for Spartanburg, S.C., where the Bisons will face USC Upstate next Saturday at 6 p.m. The game will be the first of two final road games in the 2013 season for Lipscomb.
