NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Looking to jump into first place in the Atlantic Sun Conference standings, the Lipscomb men’s soccer team travels to ETSU Saturday for an in-state matchup at 6 p.m.
It is rather simple for the Bisons, win and they secure a bye in the first round of the conference tournament. Lipscomb is 8-7-1, 4-2 in A-Sun play and currently sits in fourth place with 12 points, three points behind leader ETSU with two games remaining. The Bisons are 4-1 in their last five conference games.
Scenarios’ for the A-Sun tournament are simple. If Lipscomb wins its final two games and FGCU has a loss or a tie, the Bisons would host the A-Sun Championship. Lose Saturday and Lipscomb will be traveling to Fort Myers or Johnson City.
ETSU holds a 5-2 series advantage over the Bisons. Lipscomb last won in 2011 when it upset the No. 22 Bucs 2-1 on the road.
The Purple and Gold will lean heavily on its attacking third to lead the Bisons to a victory. ETSU has given up the fewest number of goals in the A-Sun, allowing just 13 in 15 games.
Getting off to an early lead will be key for Lipscomb as it is 8-0 when scoring first. Omar Djabi leads the Bisons offensively scoring eight goals and 19 points. Both lead the conference.
Luke Gearin (4) and Reece Holcombe (2) are the only other Bisons to have multiple goals this season.
The Bucs are coming off a decisive 4-1 win over USC Upstate on Wednesday night, a victory that put ETSU atop the A-Sun and improved their record to 7-5-3, and 5-2 in conference.
ETSU is 3-3-1 at home this season, while the Bisons are 3-3 in true road games.
Not many teams are led by their goalkeeper, but that is the case for the Bucs. Ryan Coulter leads the A-Sun with a 0.82 goals against average and eight shutouts, three more than anyone else in the conference.
The Bucs are 10th in the nation with a 0.53 shutout percentage.
Among the A-Sun career active leaders, Coulter ranks first in shutouts (23) and goals against average (0.95) and his 172 career saves rank third.
Emmanuel Wilson leads the team with three goals scored and seven total points. David Geno and Kristoffer Ibsen each have two scores.
The game will not be shown through video, but will have live stats throughout the match.
Lipscomb returns home for senior night and its last regular season game on Nov. 9 when Mercer invades the Lipscomb Soccer Complex. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
