BOCA RATON, Fla. _The numbers were impressive, but they added up to a loss.
The Lipscomb Bisons and Florida Atlantic Owls combined for 16 runs, 24 hits and sent a combined total of nine pitchers to the mound. But in the end, the Bisons fell short of victory losing 10-6 in the first of three-games in the Atlantic Sun series at FAU Stadium Friday night.
Florida Atlantic scored one run in the first inning, four in the second, three in the third and two in the second.
The Bisons rallied with one run in the sixth, three in the seventh and two in the eighth.
In the sixth the Bisons took advantage of a pair of miscues in the field by FAU. Nathan Sensing led off the inning by getting on base on an error by the shortstop. Sensing then moved to second on a wild pitch. Zac Miller walked. Caleb Joseph then singled to left field to score Sensing.
Preston Embrey walked to start the seventh inning. Allen Bolden was hit by a pitch. Tadd Brewer tripled to left center, one of his two hits in the game, scoring both Embrey and Bolden. After Ryan Mitchell struck out Sensing singled through the right side to score Brewer.
With two outs in the eighth Bolden singled through the right side. Brewer was safe at first on an error by the shortstop. Mitchell singled up the middle to score Bolden. Sensing also singled up the middle to score Brewer.
Florida Atlantic used six pitchers. They combined to allow 10 hits. Mickey Storey started the game for FAU and picked up the win, pitching six innings. He allowed four hits and one run.
Brandon McClurg started for the Bisons. He pitched 1.1 innings, allowing seven hits and five runs, all earned. Paul Pienette threw 1.2 innings. He gave up five hits and five runs, all earned. Robby Smithson came on to pitch the final five innings. He allowed two hits, but shut down FAU the rest of the way. He walked four and struck out five.
McClurg, 3-2, was credited with the loss for the Bisons.
Brewer and Sensing each had two hits for the Bisons. Mitchell extended his hitting streak to 13 games. Brewer's triple was the only extra base hit for the Bisons.
Tim Mascia led FAU with three hits, including one triple and a two-RBI single. Four other FAU batters had two hits in the game. FAU scattered 14 hits.
The Bisons dropped to 18-26 overall, 9-13 in the conference. FAU is 23-22, 9-13 in the A-Sun.
