The Bisons began their A-Sun season with a bang Saturday night, knocking off the 2004 A-Sun regular season champion Troy Trojans, 77-68.
The Trojans couldn't find a way to stop guard James Poindexter, who shot 8-of-13 from the field, including seven 3-pointers. Poindexter led all scorers with 28 points.
Center Cameron Robinson and guard Brian Fisk also came up big for the Bisons. Robinson logged a double-double, scoring 20 points and pulling down 13 rebounds. Fisk scored 14 points for Lipscomb. Fisk, Robinson and Poindexter combined to score 62 of the Bisons' 77 points.
The Bisons fell behind by 11 points early on, but battled back to trail by three at the half, 34-31. Lipscomb made up that deficit by shooting a scorching 57 percent from the field in the last 20 minutes of play to come from behind for the win. Troy shot just 14 percent from behind the arc in the second half.
Lipscomb (3-1, 1-0 Atlantic Sun) led by as many as 14 with four minutes to play, but Troy (1-5, 0-2 A-Sun) went on a 10-1 run to cut the lead to five at the 1:47 mark. The Trojans could never get closer and watched the Bisons connect on their 3-point attempts down the stretch to seal the win.
Senior Eddie Baker led three Trojans in double figures with 19 points and a team high seven rebounds. Senior Corey Hornsby added 17 points, while junior Ransom Antoine, in his first career start, scored 11.
Lipscomb will take the floor next against Savannah State in Savannah, Ga , on Monday night. Tip off is at 7 pm.
