Lipscomb University track and cross country coach Karen Robichaud has announced the signing of Paul Irvin from Tyler, Texas.
"I chose Lipscomb based on the Christian experience and the academic quality of the university combined with the kindness of each person I met," said Irvin. "
Irvin lettered in both track and field and cross country for three years at Robert E. Lee High School. He helped lead the cross country team to both the regional and district championships in 2005.
Irvin, 5-foot-10, 140 pounds, was named "East Texas Elite Runner" in both the 800-meters and 1,600 meters. He was a Region 12 5-A qualifier in the 800 meters in 2005 and 2006. He was a Region 12 5A qualifier in the 1,600 meters in 2006.
Irvin also has excelled in the classroom. He is a member of the National Honor Society and a member of "Who's Who Among American High School Students" for both 2005 and 2006.
His brother, Mark Irvin II, is a sophomore at the United States Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. where he is part of the marathon team.
His parents are Sonya and Mark Irvin.
