A fast start usually means success on the road but such was not the case for the Lipscomb Lady Bisons.
Thursday night at Mercer's University Center in Macon, Ga., the Lady Bisons suffered a 50-46 setback.
Mercer fought back tying the game at 28-28 intermission.
In the second half the Lady Bisons were also in control early, holding a six-point lead for the first four minutes. Mercer went on a 12-point scoring run to take a 44-38 lead with 8:35 left.
The rest of the game was mostly a defensive struggle with the Lady Bisons going six minutes without scoring.
Woods led all scorers with 14 points. Center Katie Beth Pate grabbed five rebounds and blocked five shots.
The Lady Bisons, losing for the first time in the New Year, slipped to 3-9, 2-3 in the A-Sun as they ended a three-game winning streak.
Mercer increased its own winning streak to three games, raising their record to 6-6, 3-2.
