Lipscomb University volleyball coach Brandon Rosenthal has announced the signing of Amy Trykowski from Dunfries, Va.
"Amy is going to be a wonderful talent,' said Rosenthal. "She played soccer in her early years of high school. She hasn't played volleyball all that long, but there is no doubt about her athleticism and jumping ability.
"Her jumping ability is probably one of her greatest strengths. We really think she is going to fit in nicely with the team with what she does defensively. There is a huge upside to Amy with her character and work ethic. She is going to bring a lot of flair to the game."
Trykowski, 5-foot-11, played volleyball for Forest Park High School, lettering in 2004 and 2005.
She posted an outstanding senior season with 181 kills, 115 solo blocks and 26 service aces. Trykowski will play in the middle for the Lady Bisons.
"She is smaller, but she makes up for that with her leaping ability," said Rosenthal. "She fits into what we are looking for. We think we have found one that kind of got away from everybody else. We talked to a lot of college coaches and everybody said they were impressed with her jumping ability.
"As a young player she is going to be challenged with the speed of the game at the next level. But Amy is a very smart player. She will be able to hold her own here."
In 2005 she was a first team All-District and first team All-Region selection. She was also an honorable mention All-State selection. In 2004 she was named second team All-District.
Trykowski was an academic honor roll member in 2002-2003 and 2004-2005. She was also a junior varsity soccer player and a member of the concert orchestra.
"I liked the people and the overall environment at Lipscomb," said Trykowski. "After visiting, I felt like Lipscomb suited what I wanted in a school."
She is the daughter of Sue and David Trykowski. She plans to major in biology.
