Right-hander Rob Smithson threw the Bisons' first complete game of the season, in a 3-1 victory against Middle Tennessee State on Wednesday, February 28.
The Blue Raiders took the first lead of the game with a run in the top of the second.
However, it took the Bisons just one swing of the bat to turn the game. In the fourth, Shane Simpkins singled to lead off the inning. With one out, Justin Sanders homered to right field for his first home run of the season, and a 2-1 Bisons lead.
Meanwhile, Smithson gave the Bisons yet another strong outing. The run he allowed in the second was only the first earned run he has given up all season.
In nine innings, he gave up just one run on five hits. He struck out eight.
The Bisons added another run on an RBI single by Branden Cadavid in the eighth.
Sanders led the Bisons on offense with two hits and two RBIs.
The Bisons are back in action when they travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to take on LSU in a three game series, beginning Friday, March 2.
Senior right-hander John King is scheduled to make the Friday start which is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. In three appearances this season, King has given up just three earned runs in nine innings. He has struck out four.
