After winning the first two games against LSU, Tigers' pitching stifled the Bisons' offense throughout much of the game on Sunday, March 4, as the Bisons were defeated 8-4 at Alex Box Stadium.
The Tigers took a 6-0 lead late into the game, only to have the shutout broken up by a four-run Bisons' eighth.
With one out, Justin Sanders walked. Branden Cadavid followed with an infield single. Ben Williams singled to load the bases for Andrew Nickerson, who singled to give the Bisons' their first run of the game. Casey Bond followed with a double down the right-field line for two more Lipscomb runs. An RBI fielder's choice by Allen Bolden capped the scoring for the Bisons.
LSU added two runs in the bottom of the inning to bring the score to 8-4, where it would remain.
Right-hander Matt Schnelly, who started for the Bisons received the loss to lower his record to 2-2. In seven innings, he gave up six runs, four earned, while striking out five.
Bond recorded two RBIs to lead the Bisons on offense with Nickerson contributing two hits and an RBI.
"It was unfortunate that we could not close out the series with a win," Schnelly said. "Overall, it was a great weekend for the Lipscomb baseball program. We have proven that we can compete with bigger name schools such as LSU and Auburn.
"We didn't get the win today, but we can draw confidence from a big series win. Hopefully we can take any momentum we may have gathered into our game against Tennessee on Tuesday."
The Bisons will travel to Knoxville, Tennessee, to take on the University of Tennessee in a single game on Tuesday, March 6. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
