Lipscomb University men's basketball coach Scott Sanderson has announced the signing of Murfreesboro, Tenn., native Jimmy Oden, a 6-foot-3 point guard.
"Jimmy has a great foundation at home," Sanderson said. "His mother and father have provided him with the tools to be successful. This foundation will allow him to step on the court and helps us continue in our successful ways.
"Like each of our other recruits, he is an experienced winner."
Oden graduated from Siegel High School in 2006, but spurned multiple college offers opting to improve his game at North Atlanta Prep Academy during the 2006-07 season. As a senior at Siegel, Oden averaged 22.6 points per game, five assists per game, and six rebounds per game.
"I am a huge fan of recruiting local players," said Sanderson. "I am pleased to add Jimmy as our fourth signee in this recruiting class from Middle Tennessee."
During his senior year at Siegel, he led the state of Tennessee in scoring with 22.6 points per game. His last two seasons at Siegel, Oden helped lead his team to a 60-12 record on his way to earning All-District 7-AAA regular season first team, All-Region 4-AAA, and All-State AAA first team honors. He led Siegel to the TSSAA State Basketball tournament his junior and senior seasons.
Oden was named to the All-Midstate team his senior year, as well as the All Daily News Journal First team. He was also named to the Class AAA All-State team by the Tennessee Sports Writer's Association.
"Jimmy has excellent court vision," said Sanderson. "We will use a lot of ball screens with him in the game. A lot of guys get to the basket, but he finishes by either scoring or making the right pass.
"On the defensive side, he is able to anticipate defensively using his superior feel for the game."
He is the son of Melissa and Jimmy Oden.
