New Lipscomb Golf Coach Buddy Harston is sending his college golfers a strong message: do as I say AND do what I do.
In a few short weeks he will welcome his golfers to campus after a whirlwind summer in which he qualified and played in two major senior tournaments. He played in the Senior U.S. Open in early July prior to qualifying for the Senior British Open. Of course, those tournaments are in addition to the small task of moving his family to Nashville from Lexington, Kentucky.
Harston's latest accomplishment came as a result of a strong 74 in the final round of a qualifier hosted on the Kintyre Course at the Westin Turnberry Resort, Scotland. His scores placed him among the 43 players who will tee up alongside definding champion Tom Watson and other lead senior golfers at The Senior British Open Championship, presented by Aberdeen Asset Management. The tournament starts Thursday on the famous Ailsa Course at Turnberry.
Harston, a former Bison baseball player before becoming a golf professional, was named golf coach for both the men's and women's programs at Lipscomb in April. He succeeded Ralph Samples, who led the programs for 39 years.
