The Bisons soccer team was hoping to go to Jacksonville, Fla,, and return with a pair of Atlantic Sun victories as souvenirs.
They will have to settle for a shot at s split after losing Thursday night to North Florida 1-0. They are back in action Saturday at 6 p.m. at Jacksonville University.
It was the first A-Sun win of the season for North Florida.
"We didn't come in overconfident," said Lipscomb assistant coach Kevin Burk. "The game was ours to have, but we didn't come out as sharp as we would have liked. We were not as intense as we needed to be. It was a big letdown."
Chris Merritt scored the only goal of the game at 58:10 in the second half.
North Florida made 11 shots with three shots on goal.
"The chances they had were from our making mistakes instead of North Florida creating them," said Burk. "They did a great job finishing their shots."
The Bisons had 16 shots including four shots on goal, but could not find the open net.
"We had some amazing opportunities to get the lead," said Burk. "Michael had three one-on-ones. Benj Lance had a couple of good chances. Ben Page had one from the 18-yard box that went wide. It was a sign of our immaturity that we couldn't finish our chances."
Lipscomb goaltender Danny Prichard made two saves. UNF goaltender Taylor Unsinger made four to earn the shutout.
The Bisons are 5-6-2 overall, 1-2-1 in the A-Sun. North Florida is 3-8-1, 1-3 in the conference.
