The Lady Bisons showed flashes of power, but they couldn't produce enough runs.
Wednesday night at Greenbrook Park in Southaven, Miss., the Lady Bisons lost a doubleheader to Memphis, dropping the first game 13-4 and losing the second game 9-5.
In game one the Lady Bisons opened with a run in the first inning. Leigh Little reached base on a single to left field and then reached second on passed ball. Heather Collins drove in Little with a single to right center.
Memphis came back in the second to take a 2-1 lead. The Lady Bisons came back in the top of the third with three runs. Collins, the only Lipscomb batter to record two hits, blasted a two-run home run to center field. Kellie Sirus followed with a solo shot to left field.
The Lady Bisons pounded seven hits in the game, but did not score after the third inning. Memphis answered with four runs in the third, four in the fourth and three more in the fifth. The game was called after five innings.
Christen Campbell started the game for the Lady Bisons. She pitched 3 1/3 innings, scattering seven hits and giving up eight runs, all earned. She walked five and struck out one. Kim Jacobson relieved, pitching one inning. She gave up three hits, five runs, four earned. She walked two and struck out one.
In the nightcap the Lady Bisons scored one run each in the first, second and third innings and added solo runs in the fifth and sixth.
Memphis opened with three runs in the first, added one in the second and then finished with one run in the fourth, two in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Kellie Sirus hit her second home run of the night, a solo shot to right field to open the fifth inning. Sirus also drove in a run with an infield out in the first.
Campbell was the only Lady Bison with two hits in the second game.
Christy Grisham pitched five innings. She allowed seven hits and nine runs, six of them earned. Campbell threw an inning of relief. She did not give up a run or a hit. She walked one and struck out two.
The Lady Bisons open the Atlantic Sun portion of the schedule Saturday at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader against Belmont at Draper Diamond.
The Lady Bisons are 9-13 overall. Memphis is 16-7.
