Sept. 19, 2006
Macon, Ga. - The Atlantic Sun Conference today announced its 2006 September Women's Cross Country Coaches Poll as voted by the league's 10 head coaches. The Lipscomb women are rated fifth with 48 points.
"This team is led by three seniors _ Susan Worden, Elizabeth Schall and Samantha Wood _ who have all emerged this season with a lot of enthusiasm and effort," said Lipscomb coach Karen Robichaud. `"They have all three worked hard. They are stronger than ever. They are more confident. They are really enjoying themselves.
"Our freshmen have also brought much excitement and comraderie to the team. They have really fit in as part of our group."
Belmont holds on to the top spot, receiving 95 points. UNF jumped to second with 86 points and three first place votes, while Kennesaw State earned 79 points and two first place votes. Campbell (72) is fourth.
Four teams will be in action Saturday, Sept. 23 with Lipscomb at the Vanderbilt Invitational; Mercer at the Great American Cross Country Festival and Stetson at the Embry-Riddle Invitational.
"I am excited that we are ranked fifth," said Robichaud. "I think we could realistically set a goal to be third or fourth before the end of the season."
The Cross Country poll serves as the conference standings and will be announced on Sept. 19 and again on Oct. 17 before the A-Sun Cross Country Championships, held Oct. 28 at Gardner-Webb.
