The Bisons struck first for the second game in a row, but they could not hold on to the early lead as they were defeated 4-2 by Winthrop in game one on Saturday, May 3.
Blake Bratcher got the Bisons started in the second, walking to lead off the inning. Justin Sanders followed with a walk to put two runners on base. One out later, Brad Gooch singled to center to drive home Bratcher for the first run of the game, giving the Bisons the early lead. Branden Cadavid added to the lead, driving in Sanders on an RBI ground out to bring the score to 2-0.
Winthrop got one of the runs back against Bisons' starter, Brandon McClurg in the bottom of the inning. The Eagles took the lead for good in the fourth, plating three runs to take the 4-2 lead.
McClurg received the loss to drop his record to 5-4. In six innings, he gave up four runs, one earned, on five hits, while striking out five.
Right-hander, Charles Williams, threw the final to winnings for the Bisons, giving up just two hits.
Left-hander, Mike Dunn, is scheduled to take the mound for the Bisons in game two of today's double-header.
