Sophomore Alaina Jacobson went the distance against USC Upstate in game two of the doubleheader at Draper Diamond Saturday to earn the 3-0 shutout and the series split. It was her fifth shutout of the season and set a new school record for most shutouts in a season.
The game was scoreless until the sixth inning when sophomore shortstop Abby Keese hit a single to score sophomore right fielder Kellie Sirus. Sophomore third baseman Christen Campbell doubled one batter later to drive in Keese and sophomore pinch runner Abigail Craig.
Keese led the Lady Bison batters going two for three at the plate with one run and one RBI.
"We walked away frustrated with the first game, but we were incredibly proud of the way they fought." said head coach Kristin Peck. "We talked between games about fighting for the win and that's what they did in game two. I think from here on out we are going to be dedicated to doing the little things and fighting for the wins."
The Lady Bisons (27-22 overall, 16-6 A-Sun) are next in action on Tuesday, April 22, when they take on Tennessee State from the Ohio Valley Conference at Tiger Field. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
