Lipscomb University junior Ryan Chastain has been named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA All-Academic Second Team in District IV. Chastain, majoring in Mechanical Engineering, has a 3.68 grade point average. He is from Mitchell, Ind.

The USTFCCCA announced the top GPAs in the nation for 2008 Men's and Women's NCAA Division I Cross Country. Lipscomb continued a tradition of academic excellence with honors for both teams.

Ryan Chastain was named Athlete of the Year, and also was horored with the "Total Commitment and "Heart of Gold" awards for the Lipscomb Bisons cross country team this season.

Ryan Chastain led the Bisons with a sixth place finish, covering the 8-K course in a time of 24:56.48. He earned A-Sun First Team All-Conference honors for his efforts. Chastain is the first Bison runner to earn All-Conference during the NCAA era. Nathan Brame was named to the All-Freshman Team as the Bisons finished sixth in the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships Saturday morning in Macon, Ga.

The Bisons and Lady Bisons are heading into the Atlantic Sun Cross Country Championships Saturday morning in Macon, Ga., with plans to finish higher than their respective No. 6 rankings.

The Lipscomb men's cross country team finished eighth at the University of Evansville Invitational in Evansville, Ind. on Saturday morning. Junior Ryan Chastain led the Bisons finishing 14th out of 239 runners with a time of 25:06.58.

Lipscomb's men's cross country team remained in sixth place in the lates Atlantic Sun Cross Country poll released by the conference Thursday. The Lady Bisons and USC Upstate swapped places for fifth and sixth.

Ryan Chastain finished 55th in a field of 294 in an 8-K Saturday in the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park. The Bisons were 24th in a field of 33 teams.

Lipscomb's Ryan Chastain made NCAA era history for his school by capturing the program's first individual title, winning at the Vanderbilt Invitational and for his achievement, he earned the second Runner of Week award in Bisons history, the conference office announced on Wednesday.

The Lipscomb cross country teams participated in the Vanderbilt Invitational at Percy Warner Park Saturday. The Bisons finished third out of eight teams in the 8K with a team time of 2:16:20.99 and a score of 100. Junior Ryan Chastain won the men's race with a time of 26:23.65. The Lady Bisons finished fifth out of eight teams in the 5K with a team time of 1:34:44.95 and a score of 103.

The Lipscomb Bisons finished fourth and the Lady Bisons were eighth in the Belmont-Vanderbilt Cross Country Opener on a rainy Friday night at Percy Warner Park. Ryan Chastain finished fourth for the Bisons in a field of 88 runners covering the 5-kilometer course in a time of 15:28.69. The top finisher for the Lady Bisons was Ashley Lehman. She ran the 4-kilometer course in a time of 15:28.91 finishing 25th in a field of 103 runners.

The Lipscomb Bisons and Lady Bisons Cross Country teams are running in Nashville the next two meets. The first meet, the Belmont Opener, will take place this Friday at Vaughn's Gap in Percy Warner Park (corner of Old Hickory and State Hwy 100). The women race 4,000m at 5:30 p.m. The the men are scheduled for a 5,000m race at 6 p.m. Competition will include the University of Alabama, Belmont, Bethel, MTSU, University of Tennessee, Tennessee-Martin and UAB.

The Bisons and Lady Bisons both finished third in the Mid-America Opener hosted by Evansville University in Evansville, Ind., Saturday morning. Ryan Chastain finished 10th in the 6-K race with a time of 19:13.70. He was one of seven Bisons runners to finish in the top 25 in the field of 79 runners. Carolyn Latham was the top finisher for the Lady Bisons crossing the finish line in the 4-K with a time 15:29.87, 11th.

The Lipscomb Men's and Women's Cross Country teams will open the 2008 season Saturday at the Mid-America Opener, hosted by the University of Evansville. The women will race 4000 meters at 10 a.m. The men will follow with a 6000 meters race.

The Lipscomb Bison and Lady Bison cross country teams were picked fifth in their respective Atlantic Sun preseason polls, the conference office announced Wednesday. This is the highest preseason rating in the NCAA era for the Bisons. The fifth place finish ties for the preseason high for the Lady Bisons who were also picked fifth in 2006.

Second-year head coach Bill Taylor has announced the signing of seven more men for the 2008-09 school year. This brings the total men signed for the upcoming season to 13.
