Starting off the season at home against Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), the Lady Bison Soccer team lost 3-1.
Despite being down 1-0 after the first half, the Lady Bisons took their coaches' advice and direction to come out looking like a different team for the last 45 minutes.
"At half time we made some adjustments," head coach Jon Ireland said. "We made adjustments with our defense and talked about ways to attack more. We were playing all defense the first half."
And the team did just that. After shooting only once in the first half, compared to IUPUI's 16 total shots in the first half, the Lady Bisons shot six times in the second half. With an emphasis on offense, Lady Bison Brandi Besheres scored in the 53rd minute with an assist from Kate Spellman.
With the first goal of Lipscomb's season under their belt and still trailing 2-1, IUPUI connected with the net once more in the 71st minute making the final score 3-1.
Lipscomb finished the game with a total of 7 shots while IUPUI had 34. Lipscomb Goalkeeper Sarah Brummett made 18 saves in the game.
"IUPUI is a quality team," Ireland said. "I told the girls before the game to compete for 90 minutes and they did. They never quit."
The Lady Bisons take the field again Sunday at Austin Peay at 6 p.m.
