Women's Soccer depth not deep enough in 3-1 loss to UT-Chattanooga

Sunday, September 07, 2008

The Lipscomb Lady Bisons had their most depth of the young season with the return of several players, but there wasn’t safety in numbers.

On a sun-splashed afternoon at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex the Lady Bisons lost 3-1 to Tennessee-Chattanooga (UTC).

The Lady Bisons out-shot UTC 21-19. But UTC held a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal.

Senior goalkeeper Katie Shelton, making her first appearance of the season, turned back six UTC shot attempts.

UTC took an early lead with a goal by Marlee Jenkins at 5:19. That was the only goal scored in the first half.

In the second half UTC extended its lead to 3-0 on goals by Morgan Shelton at 60:34 and D.K. Henry at 82:26.

The Lady Bisons lone goal of the game was scored by junior midfielder Brandi Besheres.

Allie Preston was in goal for UTC. She made four saves.

Sophomore forward Halie Proffitt made seven shot attempts, a single game season high for the Lady Bisons. She also had a team-high two shots on goal.

The Lady Bisons are 0-4 for the season. Chattanooga is 2-2-1.
