MACON, Ga. - Lipscomb's Katie Shelton, the 2007 Defensive Player of the Year, earned her second-career Defensive Player of the Week honor, after recording a conference game season-high. ETSU forward Jordan Monty fired both game winning goals this weekend to earn her first Player of the Week of 2008, the conference announced Monday.
Shelton stopped 13 shots Sunday afternoon as the Lady Bisons battled UNF to a 0-0 tie. The Hendersonville, Tenn., native earned her fourth shutout of the season. On the weekend, the senior health and physical education major had 18 saves, a 1.35 goals against average and played 200 minutes. She also made five saves in a 3-0 loss Friday night to Jacksonville. Shelton extended her A-Sun career saves to 560. She broke the record of Stetson’s Genevieve Roy’s 528 from 1997-2000 on Oct. 17 against FGCU.
Monty helped ETSU clinch its fourth straight A-Sun tournament berth with her game winning goals against Stetson on Friday and FGCU two days later. Against the Hatters, the junior sports management major found the back of the net early in the first half, allowing the Bucs to hold on to the 1-0 victory. After ETSU and FGCU battled into double overtime on Sunday, the Mesquite, Texas, native fired home the game-winner with less then three minutes off the clock into the final overtime period.
