Saturday, November 01, 2008The Lady Bisons got back on the winning track with a 3-0 match win Saturday afternoon at Allen Arena against Campbell.
It was the second time this season they had beaten Campbell in three straight sets and the eighth time this season they have won a match by a 3-0 score.
Bouncing back from a 3-2 loss at Belmont Tuesday night the Lady Bisons won set one 25-11, set two 25-15 and set three 28-26.
“We didn’t play well against Belmont,” said Lady Bisons coach Brandon Rosenthal. “We wanted to come out and show something quickly.
“I thought we did a great job in sets one and two. I thought we did a good job in set three. With the score the way it was the good plays were marred by the plays where we didn’t execute. The only thing I would change in set three is our execution on defense. We played too far back and that hurt us.”
Middle blocker Alex Kelly made a match-high 16 kills. Outside hitter Katie Rose added 11.
“On the whole both Alex and Amy Trykowski did a fantastic job at the net and in blocking balls.
“We had been working with Katie Rose on taking what the block gives her. She did a good job of hitting around blocks. If they blocked her angle she took the line. If they blocked her line she took the angle. That was good to see.”
Libero Jessica Turner led with a team-high 13 digs, extending her double figures digs streak to 19 games.
Setter Jake Pease and opposite Erin Pierce each added 10 digs. Pease also had 37 assists.
“Jake set a great match,” said Rosenthal. “She did a good job of directing the ball and understanding who were the hotter players and getting them involved.”
No Campbell player finished in double figures in kills. Sarah Hill made a match-high 17 digs.
“Our service was effective,” said Rosenthal. “We took them out of their normal offense.
“A conference win is a conference win. It was nice to finish it in three sets and do it in the fashion we are capable of.”
The Lady Bisons are 16-10, 13-3 in the A-Sun. Campbell is 6-19, 4-12 in the conference.
