Saturday, February 21, 2009The Lady Bisons fought back numerous times, but they couldn’t hold off a second half run by Kennesaw State in an 88-78 loss Saturday afternoon at the KSU Convocation Center.
It was the last regular season road game for the Lady Bisons. Kennesaw State was celebrating “Senior Day”.
In the first half the Lady Bisons tied the game at 24-24 on a lay-up and free throw by forward Cree Nix.
With 2:27 left before intermission forward Leah McAlister connected on a 3-pointer to give the Lady Bisons a 30-29 lead.
But Kennesaw State went on an 8-0 run to close out the half and lead 37-30.
In the second half Kennesaw State extended their run to 10-0 when Lennisha Johnson hit a 3-pointer at 19:47.
But the Lady Bisons weren’t through. They continued to close the gap, tying the game at 43-43 on a lay-up by forward Jilian Partin with 13:48 left to play.
Guard Jenna Bartsokas dropped in a 3-pointer with 13:27 on the clock for a 46-43 lead for the Lady Bisons. A free throw by guard Miaca Bowman stretched the Lady Bisons lead to 47-43.
But Kennesaw State took the lead at 48-47 with 11:41 remaining on free throws by Britteny Henderson. The Lady Bisons would not take the lead again.
Partin and Bartsokas each led the Lady Bisons with a game-high 19 points. Guard Anna Bowers scored 14 points, finishing in double figures for the sixth time in the last seven games.
Nix pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.
Gia Lockett came off of the bench to lead Kennesaw State with 18 points. Montinique Nixon added 17. Henderson chipped in with 15. Greteya Kelley added 12.
Nixon led Kennesaw State with nine rebounds.
The Lady Bisons are 5-22, 3-15 in the Atlantic Sun. Kennesaw State is 15-12, 11-7 in the conference.
